About the size of a video rental shop but featuring a far bigger screen than any Blockbuster ever did, Hyperreal Film Club stepped up their cinematic bona fides last September with a brick-and-mortar on Third and Chicon. Their sharp kino curation extends from multi-night series like this February’s incisive Black in America series, Elaine MAY featuring three of her best features, and newer selects like Freaks Only on first Mondays and the sapphic Carabiner Club, to hosting their own short film festival as well as single-day screenings of obscurer picks like Da Hip Hop Witch. Monday through Friday, you’ll always find cinephile friends and family in this empire of light.
