Robert Pitman has been holding it down as Austin’s only U.S. district judge for two years now, though major cities smaller than ours usually have at least four. For that alone, we must thank him. But we also appreciate his constitutional and compassionate care for the oppressed. At a time when the nation’s court system is serving as the last line of defense against a Trump administration seemingly determined to undermine the rule of law, Pitman’s thoughtful approach to the law is vital.
