We've been impressed with the urgency and moral clarity VOCAL-TX – a community organizing project spun out of the Texas Harm Reduction Alliance – has brought to a range of city issues, specifically their advocacy for better supports for the unhoused. Especially admirable is how they organize with people with lived experience in the policy areas they advocate in – like the unhoused when pushing for more housing and better shelter. As Austin undertakes an ambitious homelessness response plan, those voices will be more vital than ever.
