Austin barhoppers love a classic dive with strong drinks, neon signs, and zero pretense. But for a brand-new bar to tap into those retro vibes while still feeling authentic can be a tough endeavor. Luckily, the Golden Horn – which moved into the old Burger Tex space on Airport Boulevard in spring of last year – succeeds on all fronts. That's thanks to the roomy tavern space with serious 1970s-Midwest energy, their well-curated draft list and playful frozen cocktails, and Yellow Ranger, their excellent food counter serving modern twists on Chinese-takeout staples. This is a spot where we feel instantly at home.
