The State Theatre is here to entertain you – not like a clown, per se, but like a beautiful historic theatre offering classic films for summer delights. Martin Scorsese’s 1990s directing run is about as classic as it gets, and Goodfellas is a gut punch of gangster perfection, roughly retelling the rise and fall of real-life mobster rat Henry Hill. It’s hard to say what goes harder in this movie: Ray Liotta’s coked-out portrayal of Hill, Lorraine Bracco’s Oscar-nominated turn as his luxury-hounding wife Karen, or Joe Pesci’s Oscar-winning rage-bomb Tommy DeVito. Oh, and Robert De Niro’s there too. It might not be the first mob flick, but it is pure film magic. – Cat McCarrey
