Squiggles, storms, stars, and sunbeams – and other amorphous boundaries – take sideless shapes in acrylic, paper, pencil, oil, and sculpture across this group show at Northern-Southern. Messy natural movements of swarming, expelling, disintegration, spill onto canvases in rich experiments of color, texture, and expression. Michael Mogavero pins a world into a wing; Michelle Marchesseault creates dimension in simplicity; Stella Alesi immortalizes ephemeral elements in the Weatherscapes; Marsha R Fard casts viewers into a tranquil landscape; and Han Zhang unravels text to explore loss. The shapes of these works are familiar, though few have names, and evoke the liminal emotions of a nebulous existence. – Caroline Drew
