Scott Ward dreamed of offering Austin a different kind of listening experience when he opened Strange Brew. Immediately winning awards for the best listening room in town, he hired veteran musician Kacy Crowley as booker, installed a sound system designed by Jamie Wellwarth, and depends on the ears of soundman Brian Cates. Located in South Austin, Strange Brew is also one of the few venues in town to offer a huge parking lot. Residences include Wrenfro on Wednesdays, Cary Hudson Mondays, the Apostles of Manchaca (Jeff Plankenhorn, Malford Milligan, Brannen Temple, Yoggie Musgrove, Dave Scher) on Tuesdays, and the extremely popular Sunday gospel brunch with the Purgatory Players.
