Witness w/ Tamir Kalifa

“One of the hardest things about journalism is sometimes feeling that it’s extractive,” Tamir Kalifa told the Chronicle’s news side in 2024. Awarded $100,000 by the American Mosaic Journalism Prize for his New York Times images on the 2022 Robb Elementary shooting in Uvalde, he then headed for the Middle East. His photojournalism, meanwhile, feels interactive, as if you’re in the image as well, its pathos and insight intrinsic. Set Kalifa’s own soundtrack to it and now let the world come to you. Pianist, accordionist, bouzoukist, and singer in local indie chamber collective Mother Falcon, two-time Chronicle cover youths, the now-part-time Berlin dweller here becomes Bowiesque: sound & vision. – Raoul Hernandez
