Wheatsville’s 50th Anniversary Party and Fundraiser
When: Sun., March 29 2026
One of Austin’s oldest grocery stores, Wheatsville Co-op, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a celebration and fundraiser this weekend. The store, which opened its doors on 29th and Lamar in 1976, has been at its Guadalupe location since 1981. The event will feature live music from Dayeater, Slumbering Sun, and Fragile Rock, plus flash tattoos, art vendors, beverages, and food. It will be the last hurrah at the Guadalupe storefront, as the store plans to close the location when their lease expires at the end of the year due to increasing financial pressures and pending light rail construction along Guadalupe. This free party will serve as both a celebration of the store’s rich history and an opportunity to support their transition via financial donation so they can continue serving the community for another 50 years. – Rachel N.
