I feel more qualified to write up this adaptation that’s getting an AGFAdrome screening than I’d ever be about the original because I’ve never seen the 1962 film. The only version of Baby Jane I’ve watched was a staged script reading at Fallout Theater in 2023 called “Whatever Happened to Gayby Gay?” that featured such local talent as Mase Kerwick, Aira Juliet, Steph VF, and the now-Chicago-based Dylan Garsee for whom the show served as a farewell. Like the wild camp captured in that reading, this made-for-TV remake starring the Redgrave sisters Lynn and Vanessa goes off-track fast. But then again, what captures the bizarre spirit of this story better than divas going crazy no matter the artistic format? – James Scott
