When Wet Hot American Summer was released 25 years ago, it couldn’t have come at a better (or worse) time for me personally. I worked at a summer camp and the staff absolutely loved this movie, and we’d reference it all the time. But my job was arts & crafts director, meaning my analog in the film was the character who bellyaches about her divorce the whole time and won’t let the kids use the markers. She may have been a sad sack with nonexistent personal boundaries, but of course Molly Shannon made her funny, and along with the rest of the stellar ensemble cast (Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Amy Poehler, and so many more) made David Wain’s Eighties-set satire a cult classic. – Kat McNevins
