We Come to This Place for the Magic: An October Ode to Nicole Kidman

One of our favorite Australians is enjoying a cultural power increase, thanks in part to former ballerina and current Slovak pop-star Adéla’s ballad to her beauty aptly titled “Nicole Kidman.” But the actress earned top tier Mother status ages ago through her performance as the ideal moviegoer in AMC’s pre-show as well as through her many, MANY iconic performances. See a sterling selection programmed each Friday in October over at Barrett’s Too: her macabre maternal instincts in Park Chan-wook’s Stoker (10/9) and Alejandro Amenábar’s The Others (10/23), her best proto-Erika Kirk impression in Gus Van Sant’s To Die For (10/16), and her turn as the sultry & spellbinding sister in Griffin Dunne’s adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic (10/30). You don’t even have to be an A-List member to enjoy this magic; each screening is free. – James Scott
