Vampyros Lesbos

Few filmmakers better encapsulate the idea of “toxic yuri” than one Jess Franco, who presents his muse Soledad Miranda as the enthralling Countess. (Sorry to my editors, but I can’t clarify what toxic yuri is; it's a concept better experienced than explained.) Franco retells Bram Stoker short story “Dracula’s Guest” with its unnamed Englishman lead replaced with the darkly dreaming Linda (Ewa Stroemberg), who experiences the Countess’ seduction in her sleep before encountering the undead creature on the beaches of an island off Istanbul. Described by the Drafthouse as “arty softcore bliss infused with psycho-sexadelic tunes,” this is a must-see for lesbian vampire enthusiasts – and I know y’all are reading this. – James Scott
