Urban Music & Cultural Fest w/ Raheem DeVaughn, Midnight Star, Carl Thomas, Lil' Flip, more

FB
Back in 2006, three pioneering Black Austinites – Homer Hill, co-founder of East Austin staple Catfish Station; Donnie Little, the first Black Texas Longhorns quarterback; and Donell Creech, who launched local Black e-zine Soulciti – launched the Urban Music and Cultural Fest as part of a quality-of-life initiative to better serve their local community. Twenty years later, the event continues each spring to bring Black music and vendors (including some of the best soul food this writer has had within city limits) to Austin. Raheem DeVaughn headlines the fest’s 20th anniversary, hosted by Moody Amphitheater after years at Auditorium Shores. – Carys Anderson
