Does your kiddo have a love for news? Do you often find them sleuthing for clues, using their hairbrush as a TV reporter’s microphone, or maybe reading this very paper? The world needs more journalists, and the Badgerdog Creative Writing Program, a project of APL’s Library Foundation, is helping foster the next generation with a journalism-specific tween writing workshop. Longtime editor/tutor Terri Schexnayder will teach students the basics, from interviewing skills to the four W’s, and help them differentiate between real and fake news. Even if they’re not looking to work in journalism, we could all stand for a media literacy refresher these days. – Carys Anderson
