David Byrne made a movie?? Yes he did, and it takes place in the fictional Texas town of Virgil. A charming tableaux of kooky characters led by Byrne – including a woman who never leaves her bed, a mayor who never speaks to his wife directly, a conspiracy theorist preacher, and more – sing us through the whimsy of everyday life in Virgil as John Goodman’s country-singing clean room tech Louis Fyne tries to find a wife. Soundtrack’s by the Talking Heads, of course, featuring cameos by legends such as Meredith Monk, Terry Allen, and Kronos Quartet. – Lina Fisher
