For the zero-to-8-years-old set, a daytime Halloween has to be unprecedented. Usually this candy-centric celebration falls on a school night, reserving all tricks and treats for after the bell rings. But this weekend marks the first Saturday Hallow’s Eve since COVID-19 made things a bit complicated, so while the sun’s still out, why not bring the kids to this bookish bash featuring not-too-scary special guests? Mrs. Purple Urple leads a storytime; Amy’s offers free ice cream; the Soup Peddler peddles something I don’t think is soup but might be given the vague “treats” descriptor assigned to their offering; and BookPeople has trick-or-treating around the store. Plus free seasonally appropriate books available as long as supplies last. – James Scott
