Train to Busan

South Korean horror has a pretty deep bench, and among the lineup highlights is this 2016 zombie thriller. While on the surface a gripping and gory trek through a high-speed train stuffed with infected hordes hungry for new, unaffected flesh, this action-packed piece ultimately centers on a father connecting with and defending his young daughter. Along the way, of course, there’s kooky characters – including an amazing performance from Ma Dong-seok as brawler Sang-hwa – and breathless scenarios that keep the blood pumping past the credits roll. Screens for its 10th anniversary at the State as part of Panic at the Paramount. – James Scott
