“Towards a soft animism”
When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through May 9 2026
Through collaged textiles and camera trap paintings, Monica Mohnot and Jenn Wilson Shepherd’s new joint show memorializes life’s most ephemeral, intangible moments. Mohnot’s abstract pieces add paint, dye, vinyl, and embroidery to self-woven cloth, contrasting bright blobs of color with the earth tones of her chosen fabrics. The work of Galveston native Wilson Shepherd, meanwhile, boasts a more specific origin: those motion-detecting cameras animal refuges use to keep record of the critters scurrying around their premises. With soft lines and blurred oils, her paintings then render these creatures with the same delicacy as those no-contact lenses. – Carys Anderson
