Now that the Jesus Lizard is no longer on the road, it’s a blessing for those who adore Duane Denison’s cutting guitar that he is out with Tomahawk, a thunderous supergroup which also features bassist Trevor Dunn of Melvins and Cows, drummer John Stanier of Helmet, and bellower Mike Patton of Mr. Bungle and Faith No More. Their roar is far more than the sum of its powerful parts. With Melvins, who have played Austin more than 30 times since 1990. Anyone who has seen all of those shows should win some sort of prize (other than tinnitus). – Joe Gross
