When the pandemic closed Austin’s restaurants, all most of us saw was takeout packaging coming out of the door. But what was really happening in those kitchens and bars? First-time filmmaker David Liu lets the chefs and owners behind four local eateries – Foreign & Domestic, L’Oca d’Oro, LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue, and Pho Craft – tell their stories of adapting to a dining room with no diners, and what kept them afloat in those dark days, both financially and emotionally. What Liu really serves up is the story of why we like to eat together, whether it’s with family, friends, or just the strangers at the table next to us. – Richard Whittaker
