The son (obviously) of the eponymous Latin music godhead, Tito Puente Jr. owns more than just his father’s legacy as a foundation. The younger Puente has been leading a band for decades, releasing his first record as a leader 30 years ago. Plying his trade on the timbales much as his dad did, Puente thwacks his way through the same blend of jazz, salsa, and mambo, though with a more modern perspective. His most recent album The King and I pays tribute to Puente Sr. with special guests augmenting the classic repertoire.
