Titanic

One of the greatest, most romantic moments in cinema is captured in Titanic. It’s when Isidor and Ida Straus (Lew Plater and Elsa Raven) embrace as the waters rush into their cabin. The aging couple had let children and their mothers take their places on the lifeboats. What’s most amazing is that this part of James Cameron’s historical epic is absolutely true. That such a heartbreaking yet life-affirming moment came from the guy that made The Terminator and Aliens rocked the film industry in 1997. It’s easy to forget that everyone believed that this film was going to sink faster than the actual RMS Titanic, but instead it birthed one of the great wisdoms of cinema: Never bet against Cameron. – Richard Whittaker
