In 1986, Roger Ebert gave this John Landis comedy a one-star review. But future film critic Kimmie Jones gave it two thumbs and another eight fingies up, because Steve Martin in his underwear and a bowler hat hooting like a bird was the funniest goddamn thing she’d ever seen in her short life. Martin stars with Chevy Chase and Martin Short as the titular amigos, three silent film entertainers who get mistaken for actual gunslingers in 1910s Mexico, and Martin co-wrote the script, too, alongside SNL maestro Lorne Michaels and songwriter Randy Newman. The latter, who also supplied three delightfully silly songs, cameos as a singing bush. – Kimberley Jones
