Hailing from Houston, the crucible for many a jazz notable, pianist/composer Thomas Wenglinski split his time in Austin circulating through the ATX jazz scene and studying music with the likes of John Mills. He received his master’s and doctorate from the University of Miami before returning to Austin to perform with everyone from Pat Metheny and Benny Benack III to Kate Kortum and the Christian Wiggs Big Band, for whom he writes and arranges. Here he debuts music he’s written for his recorded debut Something Always Happens, covering his years in both Austin and Miami and the pleasures of young love. – Michael Toland
