This is one of those movies that you always hear is great, and even if you believe the hype, you don’t truly understand it until you watch it. Thelma & Louise isn’t just great. It is, as far as I’m concerned, life-changing. In Ridley Scott’s best movie – Hyperreal presenter Cindy Popp’s words, not mine, but who am I to argue – Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis zigzag across the Southwest, on the run as two women who experience the worst of a violent, patriarchal system but refuse to be victims of it. A revenge thriller, a road film, a buddy comedy, a feminist landmark. – Carys Anderson
