If you saw Ira Sachs’ mesmerizing film Peter Hujar’s Day, then you already know a little about the photographer’s wonderful world at the epicenter of art and culture in Seventies & Eighties New York. In this dual biography, Andrew Durbin, editor in chief of frieze magazine, expands the viewfinder to include Hujar’s lover and friend, the artist Paul Thek, while defining figures from the Downtown scene, like Susan Sontag, Andy Warhol, Fran Lebowitz, John Waters, and David Wojnarowicz, also pop in. Book sales, signing, and a reception follow the reading and conversation between Durbin and Dr. Christine Robinson, the Ransom Center’s Nancy Inman and Marlene Nathan Meyerson Curator of Photography. – Kimberley Jones
