The filmography of Australian national treasure George Miller has too many high-water marks (the Mad Max franchise, Babe: Pig in the City) for this 1987 comedy to make the cut, but it’s very much worth a watch for its sheer randy weirdness alone. Miller applies his usual askew perspective to this John Updike adaptation about three single women (Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon – what a lineup!) who accidentally form a coven and – whoopsy-daisy – summon a satanic being who sexes them all up. In a head-slappingly obvious casting decision, Jack Nicholson plays the horny devil – which makes a lot more sense than the original choice, Bill Murray. – Kimberley Jones
