When people talk about nature and nurture, they usually discuss it in relation to how a child will turn out. Adapting Peter Brown’s series of children’s books, director Chris Sanders reverses the question with Roz (voiced by Lupita Nyong’o), a lost robot who finds herself the guardian of an orphaned goose named Brightbill. But does raising this lost bird mean teaching it the mechanics of flight, like a good robot would, or does it mean learning to imprint the idea of love on her own circuits? This robot in nature is the ultimate fish out of water in this gorgeous and funny story of life in the great outdoors. – Richard Whittaker
