I’ve always been on the side of the shrew in this classic Shakespearean lark, as Katherina’s snappy comebacks getting iced through starvation tactics really sours the whole romance between her and Petruchio. Doesn’t matter the format, neither, as even in rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You I feel Julia Stiles’ Kat deserves way better than the dishonest Patrick despite his Heath Ledger good looks. Perhaps our friends at the Baron’s Men will find a fun new take on this comedy, though, that highlights instead the Bard’s mastery of language and character rather than his period-accurate misogyny. Only one way to find out: grabbing your ticket to one of their evening performances this fall! – James Scott
