The Stacks, Other Vessels, Michael Bain

There’s a gleam of the Eighties in the Stacks’ guitar-forward rock & roll, a shimmery neon groove that makes you want to boogie – even if the lyrics betray a less optimistic feeling. Beneath contemplative songwriting from Jake Ames, a reverb-saturated alt-rock atmosphere makes room for plenty of sweet guitar shredding and psychedelic-inspired keys. Joined by brother Lucas Ames and friend Tyler Jordan, Jake’s project is prone to a hiatus – largely due to happenings in Jake and Jordan’s other act, Good Looks – so when they’re on a roll, you better make it to the stage. – Caroline Drew
