Did you know, Mamoru Oshii – the Ghost in the Shell director now quite beloved by AFS dwellers due to the extended run that his esoteric Eighties cult classic Angel’s Egg enjoyed this fall – made another postapocalyptic film about the destruction of militarized authoritarianism? AFS treats us to another 4K Oshii restoration, this one live-action rather than anime, but still involving a mysterious drifter returning to a dystopian city – this time Tokyo – guided by a whimsical ghostlike girl. Oshii’s surrealist sensibilities ground this spy thriller that could have been a B-movie without his deft direction. – Lina Fisher
