Frank Darabont has helmed several Stephen King adaptations since becoming one of King’s “Dollar Babies” in 1983, getting the rights to short story “The Woman in the Room” for only a dollar to prove his mettle as a filmmaker. That led to a handshake deal for Shawshank, followed by The Green Mile, then The Mist, a Lovecraftian creature feature that begins with a town enveloped by a strange mist. What goes in doesn’t come out, and what comes out is not good. As the townspeople struggle to understand it, will the worst or the best of humanity emerge? Thomas Jane (The Punisher, Deep Blue Sea) leads a stellar cast including Marcia Gay Harden as a religious fanatic and Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead) as a gun-toting teacher. – Kat McNevins
