“The perfect pop song,” Jesus and Mary Chain singer-guitarist Jim Reid told now-defunct Seattle alt-weekly The Rocket in 1998, “has got [the Velvet Underground’s] Maureen Tucker playing drums, Ramones-type melodies, Eric Clapton's severed head hanging from the drum kit; it’s got [Suicide’s] Alan Vega singing, and it sold no records. Nobody bought them.” Factor in “vacuum cleaner guitar noise,” and you have the best capsule description for Jim and brother William’s long-running destructo-pop outfit, and why they’re possibly the world’s greatest rock & roll band. This Halloween extravaganza’s rounded out by Mary Chain-adjacent outfits Protomartyr, Holy Wave, DAIISTAR, Blushing, Commercial Breaks, and DJ Tropicana Joe rocking two stages, plus TV Eye’s lysergic light show. – Tim Stegall
