Former mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea Clint Eastwood has dabbled in acting. Many even found him to be “good,” a description that could very well be attached to his performance in Sergio Leone’s spectacular mid-Sixties spaghetti Western. But Eastwood ain’t the only gunslinger giving the picture its historic status, as Lee Van Cleef and – AFS points out – UT graduate Eli Wallach complete this dusty noir’s iconic cast. The final film in Sergio’s unofficial Dollars trilogy – preceded by A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More – this operatic stint in the Southwest is also scored by the one and only Ennio Morricone. – James Scott
