It’s difficult to imagine that alternative/college rock staples like the Church are closing in on 50 years of existence. Sure enough, the Australian icons stand a mere four years away from that milestone, and while they’ve exchanged members over the decades (except for bandleader Steven Kilbey and stalwart drummer Tim Powles), they haven’t lost a step. Though enjoying a creative roll in the past few years, on this U.S. tour they showcase their bottomless well of singles, like “Reptile,” “Metropolis,” “The Unguarded Moment,” and, of course, “Under the Milky Way.” Show up and you’ll find those classics are merely four in an avalanche of jangly, arty, psychedelic, and melodic gems. – Michael Toland
