Both are filed under metal, but if there is one term that has been fungible since the dawn of rock it is “heavy metal.” The Body, a duo whose roots date to Nineties Providence, R.I., are tireless creators in their own right and killer collaborators, blurring the line, often with another band, between extremely cranky doom, avant-garde electronics, and a portal to Hell. (Their discography is large.) They cut an almost country album (Leaving None But Small Birds, 2021) with venue-flattening trio Big Brave, whose brand-new in grief or in hope swirls and rumbles. – Joe Gross
