Served steamy hot before Thanksgiving, the Animeros’ final single of 2025, “Ponchote de Ritmo,” slathered up another stinging slab of retro-Latin goodness. Like the clopping, clanging, buzzing “Terlingua” ahead of the Austinites’ ACL Fest debut and “Gózalo” in August, the trio’s latest triangulation of interior Colombia, coastal Mexico, and West Texas succeeds their slow- cooked but no less tantalizing 2024 EP. All told, it singed the ear of Black Keys sonic imprinter Dan Auerbach, production overseer and label head for percussionist Nick Tozzo, Superfónicos bassist Nicolas Sanchez, and El Combo Oscuro six-stringer Mauro Lopez’s full-length bow, out this year.
