Local nonprofit Grassroots Leadership invites one and all to a screening of Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman’s new documentary for HBO. The hour-and-fifty-five minute feature goes inside the conditions of Alabama’s Department of Corrections via firsthand footage recorded on secret cell phones, focusing on the 2019 death of Steven Davis in the Donaldson Correctional Facility. With Texas having similarly dire conditions for those in its prison system – check out last June’s feature “Plantations to Prison Farms: How Far Have We Come?” – the screening is sure to spark interesting questions at the post-movie discussion. – James Scott
