In 1973, artists Kerry Awn, Tommy Bee, and Rick Turner turned a wall on 23rd Street, just off the Drag, into one of the city’s most iconic murals. Dubbed “Austintatious,” it captured the history of the city at the time in paint. Five decades later, it’s become a part of Austin’s cultural legacy itself, and that impact has been chronicled in The 23rd Street Mural Project, an interactive catalog of documentaries that explore the hidden stories behind each brushstroke. After launching the website and first round of short films in 2023, project director Mike Woolf will unveil the next five shorts in the series with this special screening, followed by a conversation with Awn.
