A lot happened in 2006: the launch of Twitter, Pluto sadly being downgraded to a dwarf planet, the death of Croc Hunter Steve Irwin, and a wave of mainstream attention on the niche sport of NASCAR thanks to Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly hamming it up in Adam McKay’s Talladega Nights. Reilly had read for Ferrell & McKay’s Anchorman and couldn’t do the film, but he left such an impression that the part of Cal in Talladega was developed just for him. Celebrate 20 years of “Shake & Bake,” “If you ain’t first, you’re last,” and all the other quotables we were blessed with back in 2006. At least something good happened that year. – Kat McNevins
