With “The Way Back,” artist Sylvia Benitez returns once again to the Central and South Texas landscapes that have inspired her paintings for nearly two decades. Her pieces, however, move away from realistic representation, and she instead works from memory. Familiar scenery dissolves into shifting fields of color and sensation as she paints them to create unique atmospheres of blurred haze, soft horizons, and changing light and weather.
