Organized into four biblical chapters, “suspended belief” follows the narrative arc of Austin-based artist Rewon’s departure from her evangelical Christian upbringing. Nostalgia and familial warmth coexist alongside critical curiosity, grief, and religious deconstruction, as told through paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Rewon reflects on inherited worldviews and personal change, exploring what gets embraced and left behind as we grow. By employing biblical and archival imagery alongside imaginative papier-mâché constructions and detailed figurative works, Rewon’s exhibition immerses viewers in the contradictory experience of transformation over its eight-day run. – Caroline Drew
