A blank canvas is a beautiful thing, even (especially?) an edible one. Austin Public Library continues its yearlong centennial celebration with this free and hands-on tutorial. No experience needed, nor any supplies required to learn how to design, pipe, and decorate your own vintage cake. Does that mean the cake itself will be of a vintage variety – say, a babka, a basbousa, a bara brith? Or does it mean the decorating itself will utilize vintage techniques – Baroque scrollwork, perhaps, or a Sixties psychedelic shag texture? Only way to find out is to show up, and there’s only room for 15 in the class, so better get your wiggle on. – Kimberley Jones
