It’s always a good time to remind folks about the power of unions. Newsies reels in audiences with cute boys dancing (the Nineties movie definitely sparked my enduring Christian Bale crush), but what makes them stay are plucky newsboys taking down evil news barons with the power of collective action. It’s pure, unadulterated hope bottled in stomp-tastic dancing and rousing songs. Follow the rakish Jack Kelly as he squares off against Joseph Pulitzer after a price hike gouges Kelly and his fellow urchin print distributors. If the song and dance here doesn’t rouse your spirits, I don’t know. Your soul is dead.
