When Steve Adler became mayor of Austin in 2015, it was clear that he’d be seeing yet another period of massive growth for the city. Yet no one could anticipate that he’d have to oversee a pandemic response. That period of growth would be one of the most impactful and mark a generational change to the city’s spirit. Now Adler has written his first memoir, Hot Seat – Hot City, looking back on the highs and lows of his time in office. Adler brings his book to First Light for a special signing event, then sits with congressman and former Council Member Greg Casar to discuss how the city changed during his eight years in office, the steps he took to move Austin into the future, and the mistakes he made. – Richard Whittaker
