Local legend Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids is a happiness booster for our cynical times – after all, it’s fabled that Rodriguez wanted it to feel like it was written, directed, and produced by a kid. Filmed primarily in Austin around 2000, it follows sister and brother Carmen and Juni who become spies to save their hot ex-spy parents Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino from evil Alan Cumming. Chock-full of gadgets, giant thumb henchmen, and amazing cameos from people like Danny Trejo, Tony Shalhoub, and Cheech Marin, this has as much in it for adults as it does for kiddos. The 25th anniversary celebration will also feature live music from Robert Rodriguez’s Family Spy Band, which sounds super fun. – Lina Fisher
