There’s only one joke in this film that works as intended, and I shan’t spoil it for you. Honestly, chances are you’ve already heard about it given this simultaneous streaming-and-theatrically released flick from 2021 became the favorite punching bag for the millennial/Gen-Z culture writer. However, HFC programmer Blake Williams asks us all to reconsider LeBron James’ attempt at gaining kids’ film fame. “Space Jam: A New Legacy is a good movie about wanting to play video games when your basketball superstar dad, Lebron James, wants you to do something real with your life,” Williams writes, “like becoming basketball superstar Lebron James.” Unconvinced? The price of admission is justified, I will say, by a shiny jacketed Don Cheadle in camp overdrive playing the cleverly named Al-G Rhythm. Oh, and that one joke I mentioned.
