My status as a broken record remains, as I say once more that South First is cooler than South Congress. Thanks to an influx of luxury brands setting up shop along that tourist strip, I’ve been proven extremely right. Don’t believe me about the Southside home to such local legends as gay adult boutique Package Austin and sweets capital Sugar Mama’s? This Saturday’s your chance to understand the South First appeal, as businesses all along the street from Elizabeth to Oltorf swing open their doors with sales, complimentary sips, and even fun pop-ups. You’re spoiled for options, TBH, with participating venues including Amano Pottery Studio, Austin Salt Room, Blue Suede, Devil’s Details Boutique, La Pâtisserie, JuiceLand, Golden Mean, House Wine, Le Calamar, Maaribu, Nomade, Sightseer Coffee, Soup Peddler, and Very Cherry Vintage. I’d even suggest stopping by shops not on this list; a little chipotle pecan pesto from Bouldin Creek Cafe never hurt nobody (unless they had a nut allergy). – James Scott
