Shut Up and Sing

Sound Unseen

The cinematic celebration of movies about music may have been forged in Minneapolis, but as the film festival enters the sixth year of its Austin offshoot, its Lone Star State nature has never been stronger. A special 20th anniversary screening of Shut Up and Sing, the documentary about the political backlash faced by country innovators the Chicks, and local punk pioneers the Big Boys’ doc You Can Color Outside the Lines are the headliners for four days that also include the all-too-brief life of rock & roller Eddie Cochran (Don’t Forget Me), Detroit cultural icon Hiawatha Bailey (The Song of Hiawatha: The Life and High Times of the First Black Hippie), a whole heap of music videos on the big screen, and much, much more. – Richard Whittaker
